A massage shop that suits me, how do I choose it?

Massages sought to relieve body and mind fatigue in a busy daily life. Among them, one-person massage parlors are gaining popularity these days as more people value personal privacy and delicate care. Many people find it attractive because it allows for more careful and intensive management than large chains or franchises.

However, the quality of service at a single-person shop varies greatly depending on the capability of the operator. If you choose the right place, it will be the best healing space, but if you don't, you can feel it's a waste of both time and money. So today, I'm going to introduce the criteria for choosing a single-person massage shop that I can trust and leave with.

1. Make sure you're a real professional

A single-person shop usually operates alone, so the skills of a massage parlour are all about the shop. It starts with a look at what kind of experience this person has and what certificates he or she has. Although there is no formal national qualification in Korea, civilian or international certification (CIBTAC, ITEC, CIDESCO, etc.) are somewhat reliable criteria.

Of course, you can't judge everything by just one certificate. The key is how long the person has been managing customers on site and how skillful he can handle different cases. Most one-person shops briefly introduce their careers on blogs, social media, or reservation platforms, so check them out carefully.

2. For reviews, you should look at the "contents" rather than simple numbers

Nowadays, there is a review everywhere. You can easily find it by searching Naver Place, Kakao Map, Google Review, Blog, etc. But what's important here is the authenticity of reviews rather than ratings or reviews.

For example, the reviews that specifically mention the procedure, the atmosphere of the shop, and the counseling attitude are more reliable than the short sentences such as "I'm good at massaging." If there is a word or expression that is often mentioned in the reviews, it is also worth referring to. For example, "It's meticulous," "It controls the intensity well," "It's easy to talk to me," etc.

3. Hygiene is basic, and the atmosphere is important, too

As massage is a service that directly touches the body, hygiene management is more important than anything else. Even if it's a one-person shop, you should check whether you wash and replace the towels properly, use oil for single use, and wash your hands and ventilate well.

The massage effects will also depend on the atmosphere. Even if the space is tight, you should be able to feel comfortable with the lights, music, temperature, scents, and more. Although it's hard to find out if you don't go there in person, viewing photos of the interiors on your blog or Instagram is also helpful.

4. Do you offer the right kind of massage for me?

Massages come in a variety of ways. They have different purposes: aroma, tie, sports, lymph, acupressure, and meridians. Some one-person shops specialize in one style, while others run a mixture of different methods.

You should first think about what kind of massage you want and then see how focused your shop is on that area. It is also important to briefly explain your symptoms and style before making an appointment, and how sincere the consultation is. If the consultation is friendly and detailed, there is a high probability that the procedure will be conducted with great care.

5. Don't just look at the price, check the 'configuration'

One-person shops are not necessarily cheap. On the contrary, experienced and skilled one-person shops are quite expensive. The problem is to weigh what services are included in the price, rather than the price itself.

For example, some 60 Minutes massages include foot bath, stretching, and tea services, while others practically take 40 minutes only. So check "what kind of service do you get per hour" rather than just comparing the amount. If there is no detailed explanation on the reservation site, you can contact them directly.

6. The reservation system and response attitude are also important

Most single-person shops are pre-booked. At this time, check if the reservation process is simple and responds quickly to changes or cancellations. If you send a message and there is no answer for several hours, or if you receive a blunt response to an inquiry, that attitude may be repeated even after using it.

Mannered response and quick feedback at the time of reservation are the basic attitudes toward respecting customers. That's how much you care about customer management.

at the end of the day

A massage parlor is more than just a massage parlour, and it's a small shelter where you can leave your body to rest. That's why it's all the more important to know who you're getting it from. The criteria we've introduced today — qualifications, reviews, hygiene, types, prices, response — remember these six things, and find the perfect one for you.

If you're satisfied with your first experience, it can be a healing spot to become a regular customer. A well-chosen one-person shop will help you forget your fatigue.
